Kicks

Below are short, instructional videos to help you cement your understanding of the kicks used in kickboxing.

Roundhouse kicks

Roundhouse kicks (also called "round kicks") are foundational kicks in kickboxing and Muay Thai. They travel in a circular/round motion (from either leg) utilising hip and foot rotation to deliver powerful.

With some adjustments this style of kick can be aimed at the opponents head, body, or leg.

Roundhouse kicks from your lead leg are sometimes thrown by quickly "switching" stance to deliver maximum power - this is known as a "switch kick".  Lead leg kicks can also be thrown from your normal stance in favour of speed over power.

Push Kicks

Push kicks (also known as "teep kicks") are straight kicks that usually target the center of the body. As the name suggests, the kick "pushes" the opponent back.

Push kicks thrown from your rear leg are more powerful than those thrown from your lead leg. The lead push kick is often used to keep your opponent away, while the rear is favoured for damage.
